The Night My Guardian Angel Visited Me

I was around five years old.

It was the middle of the night — the kind of quiet that exists only when the whole house is asleep and you're the only one awake. That was normal for me as a kid. I was restless, energetic, always up while everyone else was out. My mom used to leave a damp washcloth at the top of the stairs for me because I'd get nosebleeds in the night. That detail might seem small, but it matters — because that staircase is exactly where I saw her.

I was sitting up in bed, eyes open in the dark, when I noticed her.

At the top of the staircase, just across the room, a few feet away — a presence. Not a person exactly, but the shape of one. A silhouette in the form of a woman, dressed in the style of another era, like someone from long ago. No features. No face. Just the outline, the form — as if she chose to appear that way on purpose, familiar enough that I wouldn't be frightened. Human enough that I could understand.

There were no lights on in the house. But behind her was a soft ambient glow — not bright, not blinding — just enough to give her dark silhouette contrast against the night. She didn't move. She just stood there.

And I felt nothing but love.

That's the part that still gets me when I think about it today. I was five years old, alone in the dark, looking at something I had never seen before and couldn't explain — and I felt zero fear. As a kid I even remember wondering about that. Why am I not scared? But the answer came without words. It was just... peace. A warmth that wrapped around me like I was being held without being touched.

She didn't speak out loud. She didn't have to. The message came to me as a thought — transmitted directly, the way only something beyond the physical world could deliver it:

You are loved. Your life will be fine. You have nothing to worry about. Everything will be okay.

I received it completely. I believed it completely.

But I was still a curious five-year-old. So I did what any kid would do — I looked at her, and I motioned with my finger. Come here. I wanted to see if she would move. I wanted to know if she was real, if she was perhaps my mom just checking on me in the middle of the night...

I didn't fully understand what I had experienced until much later in life. As a child, I assumed everyone had moments like that. It wasn't until I started sharing the story as an adult that I realized — most people haven't. Many find it strange. Some are skeptical. But for those of us who have felt it, there are no words adequate enough to describe it.

That encounter never left me. It lives in me every moment of every day.
